Kitchen Lighting: Pendants over the Island and the Dining Table

The kitchen is both a workroom and a meeting place. It needs strong, precise light over the worktops and, at the same time, warm light over the island or dining table. Pendants are the most attractive way to do the second part.
Pendants over the island
- How many: an island about 2 m long usually suits two or three pendants.
- Height: the bottom of the lamp about 75 to 85 cm above the island, so it does not block faces.
- Spacing: about 60 to 80 cm between pendants, depending on their size.
Vintage glass in the kitchen
Amber, ribbed or cut-glass pendants suit a kitchen especially well: they spread warm light and are easy to clean. Hang three identical lamps, or mix models in one tone for an eclectic look.
Layers of kitchen light
Beyond the pendants, add task light under the upper cabinets and general ceiling light. A wall sconce by a window or a small breakfast corner completes the picture.
