Replacement Glass for Lamps and Chandeliers: How to Find the Right One

The glass is the most fragile part of a lamp, and often the most beautiful. When it breaks there is no need to throw the lamp away. In most cases you can find replacement glass that matches in size, shape and style.
What to measure first
The simplest way is to bring the lamp or the broken glass to the shop. If that isn't possible, send a photo and measurements on WhatsApp.
- Neck diameter: the diameter of the opening that sits in the fitter. This is the key measurement.
- Neck height: mainly for shades held by screws.
- Height and width of the glass: to keep the lamp's proportions.
- Photos: of the whole lamp and of the fitter, from above and from the side.
Glass for table, wall, floor and pendant lamps
- Table lamps: usually a dome or bell with a narrow neck, held by a ring or screws.
- Wall sconces: usually a small bell or tulip shade. For a pair, replace both so they match.
- Floor lamps: often a globe, dome or large dish; check the weight suits the arm.
- Pendants: the canopy or neck must match the existing fitter.
Glass for chandeliers
Chandeliers usually lose drops, bead strands or small glass dishes. The shop has sets of drops, single drops, strands and small chandelier shades. To find a matching drop, bring one that is left or photograph it beside a ruler.
When a chandelier needs more than new glass, see chandelier and lamp restoration.
